Hyatt Place Downtown Edmonton
This 12-storey mixed-use building consists of approximately 230 hotel rooms and ground level commercial space.
An interesting design on this site was important to establish a new identity for Edmonton’s emerging Quarters district, and provide a southern gateway for “The Armature” boulevard planned for 96th Street. Parts of the façade are variegated through an innovative wall design that gives the hotel rooms a dynamic exterior and interior profile. The diagonal folds in the façade emphasize the north-south thrust of The Armature, even when viewed from a distance.
The ‘tilting’ form of the facades gestures towards the river valley to the south, and towards the planned Armature Park to the north.
At street level, the hotel lobby will be characterized by a high degree of transparency and will be a welcoming beacon at night and during winter months. An angular canopy helps define Jasper Avenue as Edmonton’s main thoroughfare.
Commercial bays will accommodate a mix of uses and the streetscape design anticipates outdoor seating and seasonal patios.
